Cronin's Pub Crosshaven 2019
Batik has always been one of my favourite crafts and a series shown in Cronin's Pub Crosshaven was inspired by my daily walks in Crosshaven..
The railway walk meanders along by the waterside and the boats of Drakes Pool but the winter trees with views of the village and the houses seen through the tangle of the bare branches in the woodlands around Templebreedy became the main inspiration for my workthat year.
Of What is Past
Cork City Hall March 2016
of what is past
This was a project based on professional photographs taken in Patrick St. Cork over the years between 1945 and 1960.
These photos are in so many family albums and my idea was to present them as a series of paintings for the people of the city to enjoy. I asked around and the response was overwhelming with photos coming at me from all over and people more than happy to share their family stories.
Everybody dressed properly to go to town in those days. Women wore their lovely floral printed summer frocks and ‘the good coat ‘ in winter. A hat was the other important dress item and anybody who grew up in the fifties is probably going to say something like ‘ Would you look at the sandals – I got a pair just like them every summer’.
